Some nights you shoot a show. Other nights the show comes at you.
Shephard's Beach Resort brought me in to cover an evening with Redfoo and the Party Rock Crew — Stefan Gordy, son of Motown legend Berry Gordy, doing his own thing entirely. What I didn't expect was how hard this crew works. From the first downbeat to the last champagne spray, they gave that crowd everything they had.
Here's what people get wrong about party acts: they assume it's easy. It isn't. Holding a beach crowd at full volume for a whole set takes stamina, timing, and a genuine love of the room. Redfoo had all three — and off stage, he was one of the most humble, kind people I've ever photographed.
Say what you want about the music. I've shot a lot of live shows, and this was one of the most entertaining stage performances I've ever seen. These are the frames that stuck with me.
